Dr. Janice Nishiyama is the Clinical Director and a Senior Clinical Supervisor in the practice. She earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees from the well-respected California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles. She has been a licensed psychologist in California since 1999 (PSY16545).
Dr. Nishiyama works primarily with adults, adolescents and couples, specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety and trauma, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, issues that arise from a toxic workplace, and women’s issues. She also works with high profile individuals, helping them navigate the complicated nuances between their public and private lives. Additionally, she works with high-conflict couples who are either trying to make their relationship work or to separate in a way that honors their relationship and themselves.
In addition to her work as a psychotherapist, Dr. Nishiyama has high-level experience in the corporate world, working closely with people at all levels of an organization, including C-level executives from Fortune 500 companies, partners at large law firms, middle management and administrative personnel. She has worked as a management consultant for Deloitte Consulting; Associate Director for MBA Career Services for the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business; and in administration for large, nationally-recognized law firms. The combination of these experiences has provided Dr. Nishiyama with a broad and deep first-hand understanding of the many challenges people face in their lives, professionally and interpersonally.
Dr. Nishiyama’s approach is individualized. Her goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable addressing their concerns in an open and honest manner. In addition, she treats the person, not a diagnosis. While there are common categories of issues and symptoms, each person has a unique story, perspective and experience. Dr. Nishiyama tailors her work to each individual based on their needs. Generally, her approach is to help her clients understand why they think, feel and behave the way they do and the impact those things have on different areas of their lives. When people have a deeper understanding of themselves, they are empowered to make positive and healthy decisions in their daily lives. And, even after therapy ends, the newly learned insights and skills are carried into the future and benefit clients for the rest of their lives.
Dr. Nishiyama is committed to working with all genders, races, cultures and ethnic/religious groups, and respects diversity of all kinds.
