Alyssa Habschmidt, M.A., AMFT, is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 160307). She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Knox College and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles. Alyssa is practicing under the supervision of Dr. Janice Nishiyama (PSY 16545).

Alyssa is devoted to supporting clients in an exploration beneath the surface to bring relief and make sense of painful emotions. She empowers her clients to develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. She prioritizes her clients’ autonomy and understands how intersecting identities and early life experiences play a crucial role in present day. With compassion and respect, Alyssa recognizes the courage it takes to engage in the deep therapeutic work of getting to know oneself better.

Alyssa’s approach to therapy is rooted in a depth-focused, person-centered, and psychoanalytically-informed lens. She honed her approach working with populations that were racially, ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse. Alyssa is trained in EMDR trauma therapy, has worked with children on the Autism Spectrum in clinical and school settings, and facilitated processing and psychoeducation parenting groups.

Working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, Alyssa helps navigate anxiety, depression, grief, loss, relational conflict, childhood developmental trauma, parenting concerns, parent-child dynamics, identity issues, perfectionism, and attachment trauma. She has a particular interest in working with adoptive families to unpack the complex emotions and identities that come with the adoption experience. She is well-versed on transracial and intraracial adoptee experiences, along with domestic and international adoptions.

Alyssa provides a safe emotional space for clients to deepen self-awareness, discover their inner-strengths, and develop self-agency.
